Brief overview of the role

The desired candidate will provide technical and software support to a busy secondary school. You will be responsible for the upkeep and good order of the computer equipment, development of staff knowledge and skill using ICT resources and identifying and remedying software, hardware and network faults.

The desired candidate will provide technical and software support to a busy secondary school.

 

You will be responsible for the upkeep and good order of the computer equipment, development of staff knowledge and skill using ICT resources and identifying and remedying software, hardware and network faults.

 

In conjunction with the Senior Technician you will also advise on ICT Health & Safety in the school and monitor its practice.

 

Finally you will be responsible for the maintaining information contained on the school website, ensuring this information is relevant and up-to-date.

 

KEY TASKS

  1. Learn to provide ICT technical support for Ratton School following established procedures and standards.
  2. Learn to install and maintain ICT services in a range of locations, for the use, support and development of applications and systems in line with business requirements and targets.
  3. Learn to contribute to the work of the team in the delivery of projects and support as required by the Senior ICT Technician.
  4. Learn to complete personal and service administration.
  5. Demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly, sometimes outside of normal core hours in response to service demands as agreed with the Service Manager.
  6. Undertake the apprenticeship training including NVQ in ICT Practitioner Level 2 and 3, Certificate in ICT Practitioner Level 2 and 3, and Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number at Level 2.

This job description sets out the duties of the post at the time it was drawn up.  The post holder may be required from time to time to undertake other duties within the school as may be reasonable expected, without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.  This is a common occurrence and would not justify a reconsideration of the grading of the post.

Desired qualifications

The preferred candidate will have achieved GCSE A-Cor other skills qualifications in English and Maths, though consideration may be given to highly-motivated young people willing to achieve a qualification in Functional Skills (English, Maths & ICT) at Levels 1 & 2.

Future prospects

The Intermediate Level Apprenticeship provides individuals with a sound knowledge base that can support them in undertaking further learning and development of their careers in ICT support and related areas. These include:

  • Advanced Level Apprenticeship in ICT
  • Higher Apprenticeship in ICT

This pathway also offers the participant a doorway into the administration profession, offering the chance to work in a variety -of settings. The experience gained from this apprenticeship in the practical office environment is invaluable.
