Apprentice IT Technician – John Donne Primary School

Brief overview of the role

The desired candidate will provide technical and software support to a busy primary school. You will be responsible for the upkeep and good order of the computer equipment, development of staff knowledge and skill using ICT resources and identifying and remedying software, hardware and network faults.

Vacancy description

  • To provide first line helpdesk support to students and staff for hardware, software, audio-visual, photocopiers and other equipment.
  • Troubleshooting of computer, audio/visual, photocopying and content management systems.
  • To assist with administration of usernames and passwords for staff and students Joining/leaving school.
  • To assist with the purchase, setting up, maintenance and repair of computers, audio-visual equipment, computer-linked equipment and computer-related equipment.
  • To install and configure software applications.
  • To help produce and maintain I.T statistics, reports, checklists and other documentation as necessary.
  • To help maintain appropriate stock levels of computer consumables and accessories and to raise purchase orders as necessary ensuring that value for money is obtained.
  • To assist with the upkeep of the school I.T. inventory
  • To maintain satisfactory standards of safety and security to keep end users safe and sensitive data secure.
  • To administer and coordinate warranty claims, repairs, photocopier faults/call outs, equipment deliveries/collections and IT recycling.
  • To proactively implement the schools policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any other relevant duties as may reasonably be requested by the School.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent) at Grade C or above
  • Willing to work towards an Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship in IT
  • 5 GCSE’s grades A*-C or equivalent (including English,Maths & IT)

Personal qualities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Software including Office
  • Knowledge of basic networking principles.
  • Knowledge of mobile device management systems.
  • Awareness of security best practices relating to IT systems.
  • Experience of a range of devices and operating systems including Microsoft Windows and Apple iOS.
  • Enthusiasm for IT and interacting with people.
  • Experience of Networking and central management of end user devices.
  • Experience of Audio/Visual equipment.

Training to be provided

  • Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeships
  • Level 2 functional skills in Maths and English, if required
